I thought about it for awhile, I have/had little to no drama in my life until milspouse.com and by me simply bringing up that some of the posting had gotten rather vile I got slammed with "We can say what we want how we want, its called free speech" bullshit, and the "I refuse to sugarcoat things, people who cant handle it should get tougher skin" First, I think both of those are lame excuses that rude, tactless people say to hide the fact that in reality they are just being a rude bitch, plane and simple. I suppose they are calling being polite, or showing restraint -"sugarcoating" their opinion. So I decided thats fine, you can continue to turn people off from this site that was originally intended to be a hub for spouses to gain information, support and friendship- none of which was occurring from these "posting bullies" but I will not be a part of it. It becomes exhausting being privately thanked for taking up for "less vocal" posters and slammed publicly by tactless posters. And since making this decision to leave a few weeks ago I have to admit I am a much happier person, all the bickering, the stories of cheating, the judging and caddyness- all out of my life now! I dont usually choose to run from things like this, but when you come to the conclusion that you are becoming less of a respectful person by stooping to their level, its time to go. I have no regrets and I hope for "newbies" concern that the site can get their act together, but I feel as long has there are the same set of stubborn posters on there, its probably won't happen for them.
I know exactly how you feel. A few years back I had to make the decision to step back from those forums. Realized I had the power of the mouse to clicks those toxic people off.
ReplyDeleteJust know you are the better woman for holding your head high!
ReplyDeleteYou aren't missing anything over there. It's kinda dead.
ReplyDeleteSo much of that place is "entertainment reading" for me. It's hard to take anyone seriously over there (which is how I found your blog, by the way- I clicked because I liked your rational comments). Some women will ask for advice but then defend their current situation. Who goes to a message board to ask a bunch of strangers if she should stay with her cheating, crappy husband? And you're right about the tasteless commenters. Glad you're happier now that you've left it behind. I quit because I never found ANYTHING resourceful on those boards.
ReplyDeleteI posted something on there the other day about migranes (like what I take for mine)... but other then that, I haven't even really posted much lately. It's too much drama! I'm still gonna keep my account.. but I am not even posting as much as I was when we all got on there a while back. It's not even fun anymore! I am however glad I made the friendships I did when I did.. aka, you, and a couple of others. It's nice to know some of us are sane and normal and don't have the bs situations that some of them do. I'm still waiting on a visit to Texas from you~ ha ha! Hugs hon!
ReplyDeleteHeather.
Wow. I was going to look into the site, but now I'm having second thoughts. It's too bad that mil spouses can't all get along. I hate when people only care about rank and are way too caddy. We are all in it together, I don't get why some women can't comprehend that. I'm glad you've de-stressed!
ReplyDeletehaha you ladies are too funny! Thanx for the support xoxo!
ReplyDeleteI tried to start a dialogue with the new spouse and seasoned spouses and was immediatly met with rude, and tactless comments..I will never again go to the site or buy the magazine that allows for such vile woman to run the forums. I have been around awhile and the forums are full of bullies and not part of the milspouse community I am not proud of at all.
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing you did. Reading the posts on there just made me upset and stressed. I do feel much better now that I no longer go on there either!
ReplyDeleteI try to avoid military spouse communities ever since the whole "semper spouse" ordeal that happened recently. Sometimes people are rude and hateful instead of supportive. It's better to find people that support you on your own. Or through blogger ;)
