ok my opinion:
1. for 7, hell, for ANY age...they are AMAZING dancers
2. Nothing wrong with the costume, i used to dance from 4 yr to my freshmen year of college and this is just dance costumes....
3. the majority of the dance was great, were some of the moves a inappropriate for their age? yeah. But bless these little girls hearts...they danced their BUTTs off!
4. I feel main stream media was a LITTLE harsh, but then again...it's always gonna be something

Ok, first of all they are REALLY good dancers. However, I felt that a few of the moves and the costumes were a little too much for their age. I mean I could see if they were in their teens even...but aren't they like 7 and 8 years old?
ReplyDeleteI feel like it's NO BIG DEAL. If their parents thought it was inappropriate they could have pulled their kids out of the class. They are DANCING...that is all!
ReplyDeleteMy only thoughts were it was creepy and amazing all at the same time. Being the mother of a boy I don't have the same perspective of a mother of a girl would. But...having been a girl and having worked as an Education Tech for a preschool I would say the moves were a bit sexualized for girls so young. The question is this, did the girls know that or were they just dancing and having fun? Maybe not the best judgement on behalf of the adults. Just thinking about all the songs and all the dances they could have picked maybe this wasn't the best one. Wow didn't think I had an opinion on it..lol.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want my little girl prancing around in a costume like that. their dressed like strippers. I used to dance to and my teacher never had us dress like that. I would never let my daughter whose only 7 go out in a costume like that. Hellooo pedofiles.
ReplyDeletewell truth be told they make bikinis for 7 yr olds, so more pedofiles would see that. and if you look at cheer uniforms and dance uniforms in general they basically all show the stomach and are all short?(or at least every dance competition i have been to) i dont think the costumes is the issue at all...i think it was the grinding moves, to each their own though
ReplyDeleteOk, I work at a tv station and have seen this about 100 times. I really do think that because we see it on TV during each newscast (local and national) it becomes a bigger deal than it really is. Those girls are AMAZING dancers!! They are so young and to be doing some of those moves as well as they are, is nothing short of outstanding. Honestly, I think it'd be a little more inappropriate if it was teenagers doing some of the moves because they would be the ones to know the underlying context, not innocent little girls. If these girls parents were ok with the outfits then I don't see why everyone else is up in arms. Just because I wouldn't be thrilled about my kid wearing something like that doesn't mean everyone else would feel the same. You know? I say more power to them for being such great dancers at a young age!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this before. I think some moves are inappropriate. However, I don't think it is a big deal. It is just a dance. I took dance classes, ever since I was 3 years old. We always had dance routines and dance recitals. I, honestly don't see much wrong with it.
ReplyDeleteI danced too from the age of 4 until 18. We did wear some rique costumes, but maybe not to that level (although, maybe things have changed). When I was 17, I had a solo at one of the dance recitals.....it was to a song from Chicago: the musical, All That Jazz. After the dress rehearsal, some of the parents of the younger girls came to the dance instructor and demanded that I change some of my moves because they were TOO provocative!!! HAHA (honestly, they really weren't all that bad....I just grew up in a conservative community ;-) )
ReplyDeleteK----I think I'll hang around the MilSpouse site....i just won't post anything personal anymore. And, I haven't decided if I want to keep a picture up or not...
