Does anyone know?

I know military members themselves can get lasik eye surgery and the cost is covered 100% but does anyone know what the spouse coverage is if any?  I am like legally blind , and the cost of buying contacts is getting old! It would be so nice to get up in the morning and actually SEE, or to not have to deal with the irritation that contacts cause my eyes!

  1. I'm not sure how the insurance goes because my guy had to pay out of pocket but it's SO WORTH it! He is so happy, and I'm very jealous. I'm not sure if I'm ready to shell out $2-$3k but I know I will spend more than that in contacts in glasses without a doubt. If there's any way you can do it, I'd go for it!

  2. My husband is in the Navy. He can get his eyes covered 100% but the base eye dr told me they won't do it for spouses =(

I'm trying to save up enough money for the procedure. Everyone I've talked to who has had it done say they love it and it's worth the money!

  3. No clue, but let me know if you find out anything good. I would LOVE to have it done. I'm blind and would love to not have to mess with contacts/glasses. Eyeballs freak me out though so I dont know if I could handle it.

  4. Ironically enough, TLS and I just had this discussion today about getting me Lasik. I do believe that part of it is covered, I'm not sure how much. It's different because you're in the U.S., but for us, the issue is that if the hospital here will even see dependents to do it. The dental clinic here is so busy that they only see dependents for command sponsorship paperwork.

  5. I don't wear contacts or glasses... but depending on your situation (and package through TriCare)they may cover the cost of your glasses and contacts:

They also offer a free eye exam each year to active duty members and their family members.
